Twelve subjects were asked to sit at a table and place only their index fingers atop the paper surface. Unknowingly a glass filled with black ink was place atop the fingers and their behaviour was observed.

A relentless denial of outcome - a pattern of thought common amongst all participants - forced a process of active escape from the situation. The participant becomes biddable, elementary power turn torture. Pacified and contained, the subject becomes unencumbered through dismissing concern for the glass, the paper, the ink, and their exterior.
